The Corner Bar
The Corner Bar is an upscale yet family-friendly restaurant in Hawthorne’s historic Whiskey Row district that serves delicious drinks and cuisine from all around. Enjoy cocktails crafted by experienced bartenders in an inviting atmosphere; while its menu showcases local flavors. Don’t miss this must-see destination!
Inside Nine Orchard Hotel lies Corner Bar – widely praised as an extravagant reinvention of steak-and-shellfish-centric tavern tropes. Boasting plaid window curtains and oyster aromas reminiscent of P.J. Clarke’s, yet with bartenders who seem recruited from Le Dive.
But there’s also something distinctly elitist and exclusive about how everything is presented; even simple tomato salad is priced as though it were served at one of the hottest restaurants; you can spend as much as $185 for three-course steak frites if you feel extravagant enough! All that’s missing in this faux-tavern are beer taps you can pull from the wall to dip your martini glass into!
Set against a backdrop of white subway tiling and dark wood, the bar was long and narrow. There was one small booth near the back for those wanting a seat; most of the space remained open with a marble counter serving as a central focal point. There were TVs showing Yankee games playing out; but customers seemed more interested in posting selfies with their steak tartare to Instagram or sipping mezcal watermelon highballs than watching.
Food here is neither bad nor great; some items from the raw bar, a delicious duck foie gras dish and an oversauced scallop stand out, but most dishes appear too precious for their surroundings with sauces and garnishes that would fit right into a restaurant film set setting.
The Corner Bar offers dinner Monday through Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm, Thursday through Saturday from 5:30 pm to 11 pm and on Sunday 5 pm to 10 pm. Their cocktails are highly sought-after as is their extensive list of spirits and wines to choose from.

Kenn Reisdorff was its owner for nearly a decade until his passing at age 92 in February. A World War II veteran who opened the Broome Street Bar in 1972 as an artistic and musical meeting place, its original wooden bar still exists along with floor-to-ceiling windows and even offers a quiet back room for quiet times away from loud music.
